Workshops - Leaves in the Breeze
Each leaf is made of several panels of fabric, so they can each be a slightly different shade, see photo. So when gathering your fabric looks for variations. If you are making an Autumn quilt, for example, collect fat quarter variations of yellow, chartreuse, green, gold, orange, red, rust and browns. Perhaps contrasting colors for your spirals, like purple or blue. A single large piece for your background is fine.
Fabrics that are solid colors, batiks, simple prints and fabrics that variegate from dark to light work best. You will also be using lots of Pellon Shirtailor Iron-On Interfacing 950F, many of you for the first time. This is the key to my machine appliqué technique. It allows us to treat fabric like paper and adds body and stability to your appliqué shapes. It also enables us to preassemble our multi-pieced shapes, in this case our leaves, for easy portability and spontaneous composing.
Please join me and take home some new knowledge, an awesome quilt top and lots of new quilting companions!
